Liablity for Home Maintenence and City Fines After Bankruptcy

Five years ago i filled for bankruptcy and in the process i gave up my home because i could no longer pay the mortgage. I am not getting letters from the city with fines for grass exceeding the city requirements. They are charging me 600 in fines. If i gave up the home in bankruptcy but they say my name is still on the lease, how can this be? The bank owns the home not me.

My answer:

The answer is it depends on whether the bank has legally become the owner of the property. They would have to complete the foreclosure process, and the title has to transfer to the bank. Until the house is the bank’s totally, you are responsible for the city fines. If indeed the bank owns the property, you should go to the county recorder’s office and get copies of the new deed, and bring it to the hearing.
