An Oldie but a Goodie- How much does it Cost to File Bankruptcy?

This is a question that is very hard to answer without an attorney meeting with you. The legal fees and court costs of a bankruptcy are the last part of the process. First, the attorney needs to know which companies you owe, for what, and how much. Then, the attorney needs to review what you own, and if money is owed on a house or car, and how much. Then he or she needs to review your entire financial situation, how much money you earn, and if you are eligible to file a bankruptcy case. If so, what kind of bankruptcy are you eligible to file, Chapter 7 or Chapter 13. Then, the attorney can discuss the consequences of each for you. At that point, the attorney should be able to tell you how much it would cost to file a bankruptcy case. Most bankruptcy attorneys offer a free consultation, so it is best to call to set up an appointment.
